The Past Comes Home by Silvia Violet

The second Ames Bridge book was a joy to read. What a lovely romance, full of humour, valour, angst and sexiness. A fantastic combination of emotions that contributed to the enticing story of Pax and Brad's complicated relationship.

Pax has loved Brad, his brother's best friend, ever since high school, confirming he was gay and that Brad would always be a crush and nothing else. Twenty years later, after Pax's brother dies, Brad returns to Ames Bridge from Chicago for his 20year high school reunion determined to let Pax know that he is also gay and that those feelings from high school have always been reciprocated.

Sounds easy enough - but small Southern towns are not the best of places for same sex relationships and Brad and Pax have challenges in store for them.

Are their feelings enough to survive the hostile and gossip?

I really enjoyed the first book and was excited when Cal and Beck pop up throughout. All the characters are strong and add to the story, but Brad and Pax are really fabulous personalities that complement each other perfectly.

The sex was hot and quite surprising (no spoilers from me!) and although this was a what I call a boy meets boy romance, it was not typical. It was well written and sensitive and not at all cliched. I was thoroughly absorbed from start to finish and hope there are more Ames Bridge stories to come.
